February 21: A Little Humor and a Little More Inspiration

Dear Friends:

Humor is a great tool to fight bullies and authoritarian governments. I offer this spot-on quip below referencing the recent Delta Airlines crash. And will point out that the reason no one died was professionalism and high safety standards required by our government. Good government saves lives.

Inspiration is crucial, too. If you missed Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s speech I urge you listen to the end of it. It’s under 10 minutes and he says just what needs to be said about what is going on in this country today, and he gives concrete examples of how Federal funding cuts are hurting regular people in his state and will do so in every state. I hope his example of sounding the alarm in a strong way and making the harm to regular Americans clear is copied over and over by our elected leaders. Pritzker reminds us that Hitler destroyed the democratic state of Germany in less than two months; and proclaims: “We Don’t Have Kings in America.”

Participation: It isn’t all about big speeches and big actions. Lots of little ones are important, too. Federal workers particularly may be interested in this event. And you may want to sign up with the organization 50501 (50 Protests 50 States 1 Movement):  “Join us in the fight to uphold the Constitution and end executive overreach.” They’ve had a couple of rallies in D.C. recently, and you may like to keep abreast of other local and countrywide protests and boycotts.
