April 22: Happy Earth Day!


Dear Friends:


I have always had a special place in my heart for Earth Day. I remember the first one when I was in college. I also remember what a sensation was caused by that picture from space of our beautiful blue planet floating in the dark universe. It was just a picture, but it helped change our view of the world and our responsibility to it. Even earlier, in the ’60s, I remember the stir created by Rachel Carson’s book, Silent Spring. It was just a book, but it helped change our view of the world and our responsibility to it.



Throughout history, seemingly small or relatively unimportant actions and events have at times changed everything. I hold that thought as we enter our 7th week on the I-395 overpass with increasing support. We are starting to connect with other similar efforts to support them. There were two articles on the environment that I found uplifting today. I share them with you in the hopes you might feel more hopeful, too. Both are about people coming together to move us forward however they can.
